12-year-old killed in boating crash, father arrested for DWI

Reported by: KPLC Staff

A fatal boating crash on Lake Misere in Cameron Parish claims the life of a 12-year-old boy, and his father is accused of being under the influence of alcohol at the wheel.

Officials with the Department of Wildlife and Fisheries say 40-year-old Byron Armentor of Jennings was heading north across the lake when his boat struck large tree branches sticking out of the water. Officials say the impact threw Armentor from the boat, and struck his son, Zachary in the head. We're told he suffered massive head trauma. He was not ejected from the boat.

Armentor was booked into the Cameron Parish Jail, and charged with Vehicular Homicide, DWI, and Wreckless Operation of a Watercraft.
