Jeff Davis voters defeated a proposal to add a quarter cent sales tax for a new jail. That failed 37% yes (1,054 votes) to 63% no (1,801 votes).
Meanwhile voters in Calcasieu overwhelmingly renewed a ten year sales tax to support the parish libraries. Easily passing 91% yes (5,950 votes) to 9% no (573 votes).
