Election: The Votes Are In

Reported By: KPLC Staff

Southwest Louisiana voters headed to the polls this Saturday and the results are in:

Jeff Davis voters defeated a proposal to add a quarter cent sales tax for a new jail. That failed 37% yes (1,054 votes) to 63% no (1,801 votes).

Meanwhile voters in Calcasieu overwhelmingly renewed a ten year sales tax to support the parish libraries. Easily passing 91% yes (5,950 votes) to 9% no (573 votes).

Calcasieu Library Director Michael Sawyer thanked voters for their support. "We want to thank voters. This is unheard of in my world for this kind of support," said Sawyer. "This will not only help us keep the current programs but add the latest to area libraries over the next ten years."
