LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) - When it comes to losing weight or toning up, the products promising fast, easy results always garner a lot of attention. In this Healthcast, I show you one piece of equipment that has people swearing you can "vibrate" your way to a slimmer you.
It might just look like Rachel Montiville is simply standing on the piece of equipment, but if you look closely, you can see that she is getting a total body workout through a series of vibrations. "In my hamstrings and in the front of my legs and in my booty," says Rachel.
It's called a Power Plate and after being used by astronauts returning from space - to Olympic athletes in training, this equipment has now made its way to mainstream fitness facilities like The Sports Club at Graywood. Fitness Director Laura Dougherty says, "After finding that it increased bone density, it also increased the lean muscle mass. There were also improvements in anabolic hormones, which help muscle growth and decreased their fat mass."
Dougherty says results have been phenomenal thanks to the Power Plate's advanced body vibration. "The vibration comes from the plate and there's three planes of vibration, which when you get on here," says Dougherty, "you don't have to put on any additional stress load of any additional mass."
When Rachel was looking to tone her body, the Power Plate got her moving. "You just have to get on it and hold on and it does the work for you," she says, "you just do your normal exercises and the vibration just does the work for you."
The vibrations from the Power Plate have shown increased muscle strength and flexibility, improved circulation, even anti-aging benefits. "You don't have to use the plate every day...three times, 15 reps and sets," says Dougherty, "you can just get on it 30 seconds, two sets, 45 seconds up to 60 seconds and there's different levels of vibration to increase the intensity."
Rachel's been using the Power Plate for about six months and says her results are obvious. "I've noticed that my legs have gotten more toned, the circulation in my legs," says Rachel, "I feel better. I'm more energetic and I just feel stronger."
