The Literacy Council's Lifelong Learning Center provides educational programs for adults and families, and works to increase public awareness of literacy issues and the need for lifelong learning. Long known for its volunteer tutoring program, the Literacy Council is now expanding its role by opening its Lifelong Learning Center to the community. The Learning Center has been created by the Council to meet the demands of the 21st century for the new skills required in today's information based society.

The Learning Center is located in the old Central School Arts & Humanities Center at 809 Kirby in Lake Charles and is staffed by qualified, experienced teachers who are assisted by trained volunteers. The center offers free small group classes for adults in Workplace Essential Skills , Computer Basics , Financial Basics , Citizenship , English Language , Math , and Family Reading programs. The center also has a fully equipped computer learning lab where adults can do self-directed study. The Learning Center is partially funded by a grant from the Louisiana Department of Education, Division of Family and Technical Education.
