LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) - We hoped for three but now it's down to two. Next week's 7th Congressional Debate will now feature Don Cravins Jr. and Peter Vidrine.
"I'm dissappointed. I would hope Congressman Boustany would've come here to Calcasieu Parish and would've made himself available for a debate but we will move past it and focus on the issues that are important, like the economy, healthcare, the 700 million dollar bailout," said Senator Don Cravins Jr.
"Every debate we've had so far he can't justify his service over the last four years. He can't even come close to justify his vote on the 700 billion dollar bailout," said Peter Vidrine.
7-News contacted Boustany's Chief of Staff, Jeff Dobrozsie, for a comment on Boustany's debate absence. Dobrozsie said quote, " He has other long-standing planned commitments."
So we asked Boustany's Chief of Staff. What are the commitments?
He responded, " He has other long-standing planned commitments." We also offered to tape Boustany's responses but he also declined.
While Boustany can't make the debate, the other two are looking forward to it.
"It's very important the people of Calcasieu and Cameron get an opportunity to see all of the candidates on the Congressional Debate and get an opportunity to hear us," said Cravins Jr.
"People can really know what we're about, what answers we have. They can make an honest assessment of who is a better choice, who has the better ideas," said Vidrine.
But in the end, the voters will decide who has the better ideas.
