BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - State wildlife and fisheries officials have scheduled a series of 6 meetings to address the concerns of waterfowl hunters about the effect of oil in coastal marshes and the upcoming hunting season.
At the public meetings planned July 26-Aug. 3, the state Department of Wildife and Fisheries will convey current plans and take comment from hunters.
Wildlife and Fisheries Secretary Robert Barham says hunters can be assured that a 16-day teal season will open Sept. 11-26. And, he says the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has said it believes restricting hunting sesons due to the Gulf of Mexico oil spill is currently unnecessary.
The public meetings will be held in Lake Charles, new Iberia, Abbeveille, Houma, Jefferson and Alexandria.
