BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - Two Louisiana women have been sentenced for engaging in separate schemes to fraudulently obtain federal disaster benefits after Hurricane Katrina.
Lynn Fletcher, of Denham Springs, and Stacie Ellerson, of Baton Rouge, both 45, each was sentenced Tuesday to five years of probation by U.S. District Judge Tucker Melancon in Baton Rouge.
Fletcher pleaded guilty in July to making a false claim for disaster food stamps after Katrina struck in August 2005. Fletcher allegedly listed 2 of her pets as household members on her application.
Ellerson pleaded guilty in July to submitting a fraudulent application for aid from the Federal Emergency Management Agency in which she falsely claimed that Katrina damaged her home.
