Calcasieu Parish

Summer at the Quad: Tuesdays through Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. in June and July at the Quad, located at 2901 Maplewood Drive in Sulphur. Participation fees are $10 for three hours, $15 for five hours or $20 for all day play. Students in grades 3 and up may be dropped off with a signed waiver. Summer Reading Program: The Calcasieu Parish Public Library system is encouraging children to read 10 or more books and log their progress. Young participants may have books read to them. Teens and adults must read and review five books. To register, visit any branch of the CPPL or visit

Sylvan Learning Center Camps: For dates and times, click

Kids College: May 27 to Aug. 8 from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. at McNeese State University. The program is open to students in grades 1-6 and costs $140 per week, plus $95 for each additional child per household. Foreman Reynaud Community Center Camp: June 1-July 24 from 7:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Registration is $25 a day for the first child and $15 a day for any additional children in the same household. Participants also have the option of paying a $75 weekly fee for the first child, a $65 weekly fee for the second child and a $25 weekly fee for any additional children from the same household. Horsemanship camp:

CHRISTUS Louisiana Athletic Club Kids Camp: June 2-July 2 or July 7-August 6 on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10:30 a.m.-11:20 a.m. The camp is an exercise program that will include strength training, cardio exercises and flexibility exercises. Summer Engineering Academy: June 13-July 31 at McNeese State University. The academy is open to students in grades 9-12. Girl Scouts: Sew for You:
June 22-24, July 15-17 and 29-31 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Niche Fabric & Studio. Participants will learn hand sewing and machine sewing techniques and will create four or more projects. Cost to attend is $105. Deadline to register is June 3. For more information, call 1-800-960-2093.

Healthy U Camp: June 22-25 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Dynamic Dimensions in Sulphur. The camp is open to ages 8-12 and will focus on nutrition, fitness and healthy lifestyle habits. Youth Hitting Baseball Camp: June 22-25 from 9 a.m. to noon at McNeese State University. The camp is open to grades 1-8 and costs $150.

Camp Tabby:
Mondays through Fridays from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on June 22-26 and June 29-July 3, 6-10, 13-17, 20-24, 27-31, August 3-7 and 10-12 at Club Tabby, located at 1427 W. Prien Lake Road. Camps are open to ages 4-12 and cost $25 per day, $60 for 3 days or $100 per week. Space is limited. For more information or to register, call 337-478-3600.


Tennis camp: June 22-26, July 6-10, 20-24 and August 3-7 from 8 a.m. to noon at the Lake Charles Racquet Club. The main focus of the camp will be tennis, but other activities will include swimming and arts and crafts. Camp is open to children ages 4-13. Children should bring a towel, a swimsuit, sunscreen, a hat or visor and a tennis racket. Lunch and snacks will be provided. Cost to attend is $145 for one session for club members or $185 per session for non-members. Cost is $280 for two sessions for members or $340 for two sessions for non-members. Arts' Desire Summer Camp 1: Sessions will be held Mondays through Thursdays on June 29-July 2, July 6-9, 13-16, 20-23 and 27-30 from 1-4 p.m. Tuition is $250 per session. Classes are open to students ages 9-14. Class size is limited to 8 students per session. Participants will learn fish printing, pottery, collage making, upcycling and color theory painting. July 17 or August 7 from 4:30-8:30 p.m. at Lake Area Medical Center. Classes are open to girls ages 9-16 and will cover topics such as anatomy, self-esteem, puberty, hygiene and nutrition. Pre- registration and parental consent are required. Cost to attend is $20 per person per session. Dinner and door prizes will be offered. Seating is limited. "Wild Things" theatre workshop: July 8-11 from 10-11:15 a.m. Students will learn theatre games, creative movement, stage makeup and musical theatre. Class is open to ages 5-8 and costs $65. For more information, contact the Children's Theatre Company at 337-433-7323.

"Acting for the Camera" theatre workshop: July 8-11 from noon-1:30 p.m. Students will learn how to audition for commercials, read commercial scripts and improvise. Cowboy Football Camp: July 12-14 at McNeese State University. The camp is open to grades 9-12 and costs $290 for those staying on-campus or $125 for commuters. Helmets are required.

Vacation Bible School: "Twelve True Superheroes:"

Scuba camp:

Winshape Camp: July 14-18 at Trinity Baptist Church. Chik-Fil-A Camps for Communities will host the event, which will include Bible study, worship and three skills. Skills to choose from include archery, basketball, cheerleading, crafts, dance, digital photography, drama, fast food, flag football, gymnastics, music, painting, secret ops, soccer, wacky science, wiffle ball and yard games. Safe Sitter Classes:
July 20 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Lake Area Medical Center. Youth ages 11-13 will learn how to handle emergencies while babysitting. Participants will also learn skills related to childcare, such as changing diapers, feeding young children and promoting a babysitting business. Young Band Nation: July 20-24 in Lake Charles. Camps are open to persons ages 7-17. Band director Marcus Johnson, the Arts & Humanities Council of SWLA and Southwest Louisiana Music Studios are collaborating to present the program. For more information, call 337-513-7905.

"Midsummer fun" theatre workshop: July 20-24 from 10-11:15 a.m. (for ages 5-8) and from 10 a.m. to noon  (for ages 9-18). Students will perform excerpts from William Shakespeare's plays, and they will be instructed on lighting, set and costume techniques. Class is open to ages 5-18 and costs $85. "Kids in Showbiz" theatre workshop: July 27-31 from 10-11:15 a.m. (for ages 5-8) and from 10 a.m. to noon  (for ages 9-18). Students will learn musical theatre techniques, including Broadway style acting, singing and dancing. Class is open to ages 5-18 and costs $85.
