The video demonstrates the difference between a compliant and non-compliant driver. It also explains some dos and don'ts if you have a weapon on you when you get pulled over.     Just a year after Louisiana was ranked as the 7th worst state for business, CNBC ranked the "Worst States to Live In 2017". Louisiana ranks 2nd worst. "That doesn't surprise me," said Alex Allemond. "I meet a lot of people at my job and they don't like Louisiana." The study's quality of life score is 87 out of 300 points, a score Louisiana resident Jeff Staples disagrees with. "I think the quality of life is great," he said.

    Willow Rain Molina-Renteria's baby-sitter has been indicted a year and two months after her death. A grand jury in Vernon Parish indicted Rodney D. Bailey Jr. on charges of second-degree cruelty to a juvenile and obstruction of justice. Bailey faces up to 80 years in prison if convicted.     The Lake Charles Police Department will receive 250 vials of a medication that reverses the effects of an opioid overdose.  The drug, called Naloxone, was provided by Louisiana Attorney General Jeff Landry's office.     Police have confirmed a man died earlier this week inside the Sulphur City Jail. According to Mel Estess, spokesman for the Sulphur Police Department, the man was arrested Tuesday, put in a cell alone, and died. Police are not giving any word on how he died or releasing his identity. The coroner's report is not complete according to Estess. KPLC will update this story as more information becomes available.     Thousands of dead fish that washed up on Holly Beach were the result of a torn net on a commercial fishing vessel, which was operating for Omega Protein Corporation. Ben Landry, director of public affairs with Omega Protein Corporation, estimated that 100,000 fish were lost when the net ripped. The accident happened about 2.3 miles offshore, resulting in fish washing up on a two-mile stretch of beach. The accident is expected to be cleaned up today. The boat was fishing for me...

    State police arrested two Mississippi residents on drug possession charges near Sulphur yesterday after discovering cocaine in the vehicle they were traveling in, authorities say.

    On the afternoon of July 12, troopers stopped a 2017 Dodge Charger that was traveling too close to the vehicle in front of it on I-10 west of Sulphur, said Sgt. James Anderson, State Police spokesman.

    It's been said that Cameron Parish is Lake Charles' best defense against hurricanes and the damage they cause. A $31 million marsh restoration project is underway in Cameron Parish to help create more land to provide more protection.

    As Louisiana loses land it loses protection from incoming storms. But here in Cameron Parish, the Oyster Bayou Marsh restoration project is transforming open water into marsh and land.

    Benjamin Buller has been working at and driving for his family's trucking service company, Hay Brothers, Inc., for more than a decade now. 

    He knows the ins and outs of hauling a load in his big rig and dealing with traffic.

    "Especially around quitting time, people are in a rush to get home," he said. "Which I understand, but they don't realize how long it takes for us to stop, how long it takes for us to get up to speed."

    Cameron Parish schools showed the highest rate of improvement of any school district in the state LEAP test results. Cameron showed an 11 percent growth from 2015 to 2017 in percentage of students who achieved Mastery status on the LEAP test. The Louisiana Department of Education grades LEAP test results into five categories: Advanced, Mastery, Basic, Approaching Basic and Unsatisfactory. Twenty-eight percent of Cameron reached Mastery level in 2015, compared to 39 percent in 2017....

    The police chief in the town of Welsh is getting a big bump in pay. Marcus Crochet is currently paid a salary of $40,000 per year, but at a town council meeting last night, his salary was raised to $55,000 a year.

    Several citizens stood up and spoke in support of the raise, but when it came time to vote, Alderwoman Andrea King told a packed crowd in the town council chambers she couldn't support a $15,000 a year raise.

    A former school crossing guard is accused of sexually abusing two young girls. Fontenot was arrested on July 11 and booked into Calcasieu Correctional Center on two counts of aggravated crime against nature.

    The Lake Charles Police Department is seeking the occupants of a truck involved in a deadly vehicle accident on I-210 Friday. 

    At approximately 6:01 p.m. Friday, LCPD responded to the accident on I-210 eastbound near Nelson Road; the Lake Charles Fire Department and Louisiana State Police also provided support in assisting with the crash, said Sgt. Jeffrey Keenum, LCPD spokesman.

    From 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. hundreds of people came to McDonald's to help raise money. Local police, firefighters and even the high school band was out performing in front of McDonald's.

    It's been almost a month since a massive fire destroyed part of Oakdale's elementary school. Thursday night the community came together to help raise money for repairs.

That’s right: I’m a 23-year-old adult living in Louisiana who doesn’t know how to swim. My parents always took me to the beach or to the pool when I was younger, but I still never knew how to swim.

    Showers and thunderstorms early Thursday morning caused flooding problems in some areas with portions of Calcasieu Parish receiving 8 to 10 inches of rain. Calcasieu Parish Police Jury officials estimate that about 20 families in Carlyss saw flood waters inside their homes. Resident Gary Pool says his 40-year-old home never flooded before last August. He says that since then, it has flooded four times. "Last August we got four inches in parts of the house," Pool said. &qu
