  • What We Treat

  • The macula is a part of the retina in the back of the eye that ensures clear and sharp central vision. Macular degeneration varies widely in severity. For some people, the disease causes only slight distortion. In the worst cases, it can lead to a complete loss of central vision, making reading or driving impossible.

  • A cataract is defined as a clouding of the natural lens of the eye. The lens is about the size and shape of an M&M candy and sits just behind the colored part of the eye or iris. When we are born, the lens is clear but with age it becomes clouded and the vision gets blurry (cataract).

  • Physicians at The Eye Clinic specialize in the treatment of diseases and injuries to the cornea. The cornea is the clear front of the eye that transmits light to the interior of the eye, allowing us to see clearly. Corneal injury, disease or hereditary conditions can cause clouding, distortion and scarring. With its ability for quick repair, the cornea usually heals after most injury or disease.

  • How We Treat It

  • We use a non-contact, partial coherence interferometry that uses light to measure the length of the eye from front to back, in millimeters. It is an extremely accurate method to measure the eye for use in calculations used to determine the power of the intraocular lens used in cataract surgery.

  • Corneal topography is used to acquire accurate measurements of the cornea's surface. The corneal topographer technician uses an instrument called a videokeratoscope which reflects on the patient's cornea and captures a high resolution eye image. This image is then processed by a computer software program which generates a color display containing five different types of data maps.

  • This diagnostic procedure is used to help physicians plan treatment protocols for patients with retinal disease. To perform the test, dye is injected into a vein in the patient's arm. The dye travels throughout the body, including the eyes. With a special camera and a flash, a series of photographs of the retina is taken as the dye passes through it.
