    Two people are dead following a single-vehicle crash that happened east of Lake Charles early Thursday morning, state police said.

    Sgt. James Anderson with Louisiana State Police Troop D said the crash occurred shortly before 1 a.m. on La. 3020 near Catalina Street.

    Louisiana State Police detectives arrested Mermentau Police Chief Amos J. Crader Sr. on charges of theft and malfeasance in office Thursday. Dick Gremillion, with the Office of Emergency Preparedness, says a small amount of excess natural gas had to be released at the corner of Farm Road and La. 397.
