News of the latest victim found in Jeff Davis Parish stirs emotions for the families of four other women found dead near Jennings.
The families now fear if the cases aren't solved soon more and more women will meet similar fates. The families are sick this week as the Brown family buried LaConia.
They're forced to deal with their losses the cause of which remain a mystery. Although, the five women seemed to be linked by association, Sheriff Ricky Edwards says there's still no evidence the women share the same killer. Either way, he's determined to solve the case.
"We need answers and this has to stop!" said Brittany Jones, Whitnei Dubois's sister.
Brittany and Taylor check the news daily for any answers to their sister--Whitnei Dubois's death. Dubois was the fourth victim to be found.
Their biggest struggle is telling Whitnei's young daughter her mommy isn't coming home without an explanation of what happened to her.
"If they would have found out what had happened when the first girl died, then, the second girl wouldn't have died, or the third, or the fourth, or the fifth," Jones said. Brittany Jones wonders why after a year, she has still never been told what happened to her sister. Brittany said, "All we know is that she was found naked on a dirt road, decomposed."
Sheriff Ricky Edwards said they've never stopped working the case since the first body was found three years ago.
"There's a lot of things that we have to keep to ourselves so that we can do our jobs," he said. "Anytime we get information or leads, we act on them until we have nothing further to go on," he continued.
The problem is, after a while the leads quit coming. Then it happens again.
Brittany said, "If they don't find out what happened, it's going to continue to happen."
There are a lot of rumors going around about why this keeps happening. Edwards says they check into every tip they get, but unfortunately, many people are afraid to come forward.
"If they have information and don't want to come forward--holding that information back, I would feel very guilty if another one dies, holding that information and not sharing it," he said.
There are still no suspects, but there's been several search warrants issued and many people questioned.
"If we don't have a serial killer, we have a lot of killers, and that's still disturbing," Edwards said.
Meanwhile, the departments prayers are with the families.
Edwards said,"No one has been forgotten and no one will be forgotten. We will find the killer or killers responsible for these deaths."
But, for Brittany and Taylor and the many other grieving families, with those prayers, they'd like some answers.
