Authorities along the hurricane-damaged Gulf Coast fear that smoldering fireworks could ignite plastic tarps covering storm-damaged roofs.
The new fire hazard has added another element to traditional New Year's Eve warnings by law enforcement agencies.
In Jefferson Parish, Louisiana, Sheriff Harry Lee this week warned against shooting off fireworks and said his deputies will be ready to seize fireworks and hand out tickets.
