KPLC/American Red Cross Katrina Disaster Relief

KPLC and the American Red Cross have teamed up to provide as much disaster relief as we can to the evacuees who have taken up shelter in the Civic Center in Lake Charles. We need the help of the Lake Charles community and others in Southwest Louisiana to donate money the people displaced by Hurricane Katrina.

Donations can be dropped off at the WEST side of the Civic Center.  At this point, the Red Cross would prefer monetary donations only.

Checks should be made out to the American Red Cross – make sure to put "Katrina" on the check so the money will be used only for this disaster. If you are donating cash, please put a note on the money that says, "Katrina."

If you are unable to drop off your cash or check, please mail to:

It's a war all too many of us have fought and likely lost at one point or another - dealing with fire ants. Jimmy Meaux, extension agent for the LSU Ag Center in Lake Charles, said fighting fire ants is a non-stop battle. "These big mounds you see are constantly moving," Meaux said. "They're here to stay in Southwest Louisiana." Meaux said one of the most effective ways to kill fire ants is with insecticide and bait. But if a neighborhood collectively has a...
