CPSO investigating fatal church shooting

LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) -

A church pastor was shot and killed during a church ceremony on Friday night in Calcasieu.

According to Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Kim Myers, it happened around 8:20 p.m. at the Tabernacle of Praise Worship Center at 307 Deshotel Lane in Lake Charles.

Myers said 53-year-old Woodrow Karey, of Lake Charles, is accused of walking into the church and shooting Pastor Ronald J.Harris Sr. as he was preaching.

Myers said Harris was pronounced dead at the scene.

Karey fled on foot, Myers said, but he later surrendered without incident.

Karey will be booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center and charged with second-degree murder, Myers said.

The motive for the shooting is unknown.

The investigation continues.
