LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC)- The Cowboys pulled off a final seconds win over the Southeastern Louisiana Lions tonight.
The pokes were done 35-30 with 44 seconds left on the clock when Derrick Fourroux led the pokes to victory. On eight plays the pokes went on a 78 yard drive that ended with a Fourroux touchdown pass to Richard Conner to put them ahead 36-35.
The pokes took 21-14 lead into halftime, but lost it with when the Lions scored 21 unanswered third quarter points.
The rally began early in the third when Javaris Murray ran for a 73 yard touchdown. Murray rushed for 49 yards and fellow rookie Champlain Babin led the pokes with 67 yards. Murray and Babin carried the load tonight after senior Toddrick Pendland was forced to leave after the first series with a nagging groin injury.
Fourroux was the offensive leader with 335 yards, and three touchdown passes.
Defensively Desmund Lighten led the pokes with seven tackles, one for loss and a fumble recover. Malcolm Bronson also had seven tackles and an interception. Ford Smesny and Geremy Pilate each also picked up one interception.
The pokes now improve to 5-2 overall and 2-1 in SLC play, they face Nicholls State on the road next Saturday.
