LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) - The Big Switch is just days away and one item many people don't think about is portable digital televisions. With Southwest Louisiana being a target for hurricanes, it's something residents should consider just in case a storm heads our way. But where can you find a portable digital t-v?
Our first stop was Best Buy where I found a 7-inch Eviant brand for $150. It's pretty easy to use and includes many new features, such as a built-in digital tv tuner.
Home Theater Specialist Billy Purvis says, "It has the battery or you can use it with your car charger as well. It has an on and off button. It has all of the buttons on the side for you so it could be easily accessible for the customers."
Target was our next stop. There I found a 7-inch Haier brand portable digital television. It pretty much offers the same features as the Eviant brand, but I wanted to see how long it takes to set it up. Once we took it out of the box and plugged it in, we did a channel scan which took only a few minutes. After that, the Haier digital tv was working.
Target's Team Leader Louis Michiels says, "The Haier portable tvs, right now, are $129. They also qualify for the hurricane tax credit when it's available again."
There are several other stores around the area that are also selling portable digital televisions. Sam's has one for $119.98. We also found one at Radio Shack in the Prien Lake Mall selling for $149.99 and one at Radio Shack's Cities Service Hwy location for $149.
