    It took extra's but the top-seeded Elizabeth Bulldogs walked off in the bottom of the 9th inning to beat Simpson 14-13 in the Class C state title. It was a game for the ages, an offensive slugfest to say the least. Both teams combined for 37 hits, 27 runs, 302 total pitches, 106 total batters and 27 runners left on base. After a one out triple by Ben Thornhill, head coach Rhon Morgan signaled for the old fashioned squeeze play and Cody Ware executed it to perfection.

    One night after clinching the 2017 Southland Conference baseball regular season championship and the number one seed in next week's tournament, the McNeese Cowboys appeared to be suffering from the celebration aftereffects in a 4-1 loss to Lamar on Friday.   McNeese (35-18, 21-8 SLC) lost for just the fifth time at home on the season, committing three errors in the process with just one extra-base hit, all on a day where the team honored its eight seniors in a pregame ceremony.

    Former DeRidder star DeShazor Everett returns to DeRidder to host his youth football camp June 26-27.  Everett, now a defensive back for the Washington Redskins, will be one of the NFL players coaching at the camp.     McNeese golf posted the third-best round of the day at -10 on the third and final round of the NCAA Men’s Golf Austin Regional and moved up to finish 10th in the team standings with a total score of 877. The 274 score on Wednesday was also better than seven nationally ranked schools in the field, including host school Texas who finished second in the tournament with an 841.     The former Barbe Buccaneer and LSU Tiger DeSean Smith announced Saturday night on his twitter that he's headed to the Chicago Bears. Smith an undrafted free agent will get a tryout at the Bears rookie minicamp.   Smith fell victim to LSU's lack of a passing game and only caught 19 passes for 346 yards and a touchdown during his four seasons at LSU.
