Sulphur woman invited to international gun show

SULPHUR, LA (KPLC) - Leslie Burgin started her Cerakoting business in May.

“It’s a two part base that is applied," Burgin explained. "Kind of like a powder coat except this is a ceramic base.”

Burgin specializes in custom designs and artwork.

She’s worked on ATV’s, UTV’s, motorcycles, cups and even automobiles, although her specialty is firearms.

Within six months of opening, Leslie got a call to participate in Shot Show.

“Shot Show is like the Disney World for a firearm enthusiasts," Burgin said. "Especially, for a dealer.”

The show is international. Gun dealers and buyers gathered to display their firearms.

“Turkey, Istanbul all over bringing their guns in, even though you can’t even buy those guns here," Burgin said. "They’re still there.”

Burgin says to be invited was an honor in a male-dominated industry.

"When you turned five, you probably got a baby doll. I got a BB gun,” Burgin said. “There shouldn’t be a reason why anyone man, woman, girl, boy should ever feel like they can’t. Nothing should stop you.”

Donny Trahan, a loyal customer says Leslie is one of a kind.

“I hand them to her and she does her magic. She’s really got a love for it; an understanding of the art," Trahan said. “I don’t know anybody that’s doing anything on this level. There’s people that do it, but there’s a difference between Brand A and Brand B.”

Burgin has no doubt she’ll be back at Shot Show again.
