Oakdale man arrested after allegedly stealing dead man’s car and wallet

OAKDALE, LA (KPLC) - An Oakdale man has been arrested after allegedly stealing a dead man’s car and wallet.

The investigation began after a house fire at the residence where the two men were staying. The deputies who responded to the house fire were told by relatives of the homeowner that the homeowner had died recently. The deputies were also advised that a man, later identified as Evan Townley, was staying with him while he was sick.

Deputies learned from the family members that Townley had taken the deceased’s car and was refusing to return it along with his wallet.

Later that day Coushatta Tribal Police found Townley on casino property trying to retrieve the stolen wallet from casino security. Townley had apparently lost the wallet and was trying to get it back.

Townley was detained and the car was located on casino property as well. The vehicle was returned to the relative of the deceased.

Townley is facing charges of unauthorized use if a movable, two counts of possession of stolen things, possession of narcotics with the intent to distribute and theft under $1,000. His bond has been set at $17,500. Townley is not suspected of arson at this time.
