VERMILION PARISH, LA (WAFB) - A Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s deputy has been arrested on charged of rape and indecent behavior, KATC reports.
The Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Office immediately fired deputy Bryan Kibodeaux, 42, after state police arrested him. LSP’s investigation began on Jan. 24 after investigators received a complaint involving the abuse of a child within the parish.
On Feb. 5, investigators executed a search warrant at Kibodeaux’s house in Abbeville. He was placed under arrest and charged with 1 count of first-degree rape, 4 counts of sexual battery, and 4 counts of indecent behavior with a juvenile.
“In law enforcement, we are held to a higher bar by the public with regard to adherence to the laws of our state. This higher bar includes what the public expects of us both on and off the job, and rightly so. I think it is important to mention that this deputy was assigned to the parish jail and although the arrest and criminal charges are NOT related to anything within the office of Sheriff nor the deputy’s work at the parish jail, we understand the importance of public safety and have taken immediate action today, terminating Mr. Kibodeuax’s employment with the Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Office. ” said VPSO Sheriff Mike Couvillon.
The Sheriff’s Office says that the charges against Kibodeaux are unrelated to the office of the sheriff, according to a release.
Kibodeaux had almost 18 years of service with the Sheriff’s Office.
State Police are working the ongoing investigation. No other details were made available.
