SOUTH BEND, Indiana – McNeese track and field had an impressive outing on the final day of the Meyo Invitational hosted by the University of Notre Dame as a school record and a total of nine personal records were broken in 10 events that the Cowboys and Cowgirls were competing.
In addition to the PRs set, there were three first place finishes – Tyler Smith in the 60-meter dash and Nemanja Koviljac in the triple jump for the Cowboys while Grace McKenzie took first in the women’s 800-meters.
Aleyah Donald in running the 60-meter dash, set a new school record with a time of 7.51 in the preliminary round, edging out Jasmine Webb’s previous record of 7.52. Donald went on to clock a 7.54 for a third place finish in the finals.
Smith, who on Friday set a new McNeese indoor record in the 200-meters when winning that event, qualified to the 60-meter finals after a time of 6.81 in the preliminary round. He then set a new PR in the finals with a winning time of 6.74.
Koviljac won the long jump event with a mark of 23-3.50 to set a new personal record.
McKenzie took first in the 800-meters with a PR time of 2:13.21. She also clocked a time of 8.79 in the 60-meter hurdles in the preliminary round.
Darion Dunn finished fourth in the 60-meter hurdles with a PR time of 8.05 after he qualified to the finals with a mark of 8.14 in the prelims.
In the 400-meters, Blake Comeaux (9th, 48.93) and Kobe Nevills (10th, 49.02) each set a new PR.
Other Cowgirls to set PRs were Alex Eykelbosch in the 3,000-meters (5th, 9:55.20) and Malaiya Jedkins in the triple jump (5th, 39-9.25).
The men’s 4x400-relay team of Comeaux, Nevills, Banks and Ethan Rapp finished sixth with a season-best time of 3:16.09.
The Cowboys and Cowgirls will be back in action on Friday when they take part in the Samford Invitational in what will be the final tune-up before the Southland Conference Indoor Championships Feb. 24-25.
