First-degree murder indictment returned in case of body found at intersection of Burton and Stegal in Sulphur

LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) - A Welsh man was indicted Thursday in state district court on a charge of first-degree murder.

Blaine Daniel Kennedy, 22, is accused of killing Steven Louis Woodruff, 58, on Nov. 26, 2018, according to the indictment.

Woodruff’s body was found at the intersection of W. Burton Street and Stegal Road near Sulphur in November 2018. He was reported missing from his house on Kim Street in Sulphur the day before after his children found his home amiss.

Authorities said at the time that items stolen from Woodruff’s home were found at Kennedy’s home.

Kennedy and Woodruff are believed to be distant cousins.

In addition to first-degree murder, Kennedy was also indicted on charges of aggravated burglary, theft between $5,000 and $25,000, and four counts of obstruction of justice.
