First Alert Forecast: Rain chances and temperatures increase ahead of an Arctic blast this weekend

LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) - Through the rest of the afternoon, the clouds will slowly clear away, and the sunshine will come back out. It should become a nice day. The temperatures will still be chilly, so you may need a jacket. There is no chance of rain, so no need for an umbrella.

This evening, I expect the clouds to increase once again. We could have a nice sunset if there are a few breaks in the clouds to the west. Temperatures will not cool down as quickly thanks to the clouds. You still might need a jacket if you have any evening plans.

The clouds overnight will help keep temperatures warmer and no chance for frost

Overnight, it will to be nearly as cold. It will be chilly, though. Lows tonight will be in the lower 40s. A few places north of I-10 may see the upper 30s. I do not expect any frost overnight thanks to the clouds, and because the temperature will be a little too warm. Despite the cloud cover, it will not rain.

Wednesday has a slight chance of rain, but during the evening. So, during the morning hours, it will be cloudy with no rain. Rain chances are up to only 20% in the evening. It will also be a cloudy day. Despite the cloud cover, the temperature will rise a little bit. Highs in the afternoon will reach the lower 60s. This is from the winds coming out to the southeast.

Thursday and Friday will continue to have increased rain chances. Both days I have the rain chances at 40%. So, it should not be a washout, but I would keep the umbrella with you. With the winds coming out of the south to the southwest, that will help to increase the temperature more. Highs will be in the 70s.

An Arctic cold front will bring rain and a sharp drop in temperatures this weekend

This Saturday, there will be a cold front that will push through. It will increase our rain chances to 80% for the day. Most of the rain will be in the morning. There could be a few thunderstorms involved. By the afternoon, most of the rain will be gone. Plus, we are expecting less than an inch of rain when it’s all said and done. Any outdoor plans will need to have an indoor plan alternative.

That cold front will also decrease our temperatures dramatically. Depending on the timing of the front, will determine exactly how warm we will be that day. As of now, I have the temperature up to the mid 60s. The temperature will be cooling quickly after the front passes, even by the afternoon.

After the cold front passes through, it will be much colder. It will be our coldest air of the season. On Sunday, the temperature should only warm up to the mid 40s. That may be the case even if we see a bit of sunshine. Then those temperatures will cool down to the 20s overnight. It is time to get out your heaviest coats and winter gear!
