Lake Area store owner looking forward to Mardi Gras fashion

Local vendors excited for SWLA Mardi Gras 2019

LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) - In the Lake Area, we just celebrated the start of Mardi Gras season with twelfth night.

Some shops, like the Charleston Bistro, are already putting their king cakes out in preparation for the demand this season brings. That same preparation is seen at local costume and tux shops as well; decorating their stores with beads and masks to celebrate.

Edwina Medearis, who owns Medearis Costume, Gifts and Balloons—along with Tax Plus on Ryan Street—said she’s expecting a high demand for tuxedos and formal dresses this year. Most importantly though, she said she’s looking forward to seeing everyone’s fashion choices this year.

“A long time ago, it was, like, same; black, tuxedo went for everything. But now, we’re doing colors and we’re doing fashion, as far as colors of shirts and ties and ascots and those types of things. It’s an exciting time of the year. 2019 is going to be fabulous,” Medearis said.
