LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) - The Vernon Parish Sheriff’s Office is warning drivers of the hazards of flooded roads.
Sheriff Sam Craft said in a Facebook post that there are numerous low lying areas within Vernon Parish that will cause roadways to flood.
He said that motorists should never attempt to drive through high water, and that they should find an alternate route.

The National Weather Service says that it only takes 6 inches of fast-moving flood water to knock over an adult.
It only takes 12 inches of rushing water to carry away a small car, and 2 feet of rushing water can carry away most vehicles.
Both the NWS and VPSO have one message for drivers during floods: turn around, don’t drown!
