Flood levels expected to be below 2016 records

LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) - This isn’t the first time SWLA has faced river flooding concerns and it certainly won’t be the last. But, how does this time stack up against our last major flooding event in 2016?

Take a look back at some images from 2016 to get a reference...

When comparing those river levels to river levels now, projections are not as high as river crests in 2016. The Sabine River at Bon Wier is forecast to crest just over the major flood stage of 36 feet, which is 6 feet below 2016. Those 6 feet will make a big difference when it comes to flooding this time around.
