SULPHUR, LA (KPLC) - Sulphur head football coach Jeff Wainwright confirmed to KPLC that he’s stepping down from the position he’s held since December of 2012. Wainwright went 34-31 during his six seasons as head coach of the Golden Tors. Assistant Randy Baggett will take over as the interim coach.

Wainwright was responsible for leading Sulphur back to the top of District 3-5A. The Tors won a share of the district title in back-to-back years (2016-17) for the first time since a three-peat in 2005, 2006 and 2007.

Under Wainwright, Sulphur won its first playoff game in 10 years and snapped long losing streaks versus district rivals Barbe and Acadiana.

Before coaching the Tors, Wainwright laid the foundation for Kinder High School’s current football success. Wainwright spent 10 years coaching the Jackets, leading the program to a 65-42 record and a quarterfinal appearance in 2011.

During 16 seasons as a head football coach, Wainwright has compiled a record of 99-73.
