LCPD: Suspect in drive-by shooting arrested
Reginald E. Nelson, 35, of Lake Charles, was arrested and charged with aggravated criminal damage to property, possession of firearm by person convicted of certain felonies, and assault by drive-by shooting.

LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) - The Lake Charles Police Department has arrested the man they believe is responsible for two drive-by shootings near 4th Avenue and Rose Street, according to Sgt. Keenum with LCPD.

Lt. Kevin Kirkum said that LCPD responded to the area of 11th Street and Fourth Avenue in reference to shots fired, around 7 a.m. on Oct. 22. Upon arrival, officers learned that no one was injured and the unknown suspects fled the scene.

Later that day, around 10 a.m., officers responded to the area of Rose Street and Seventh Avenue in reference to shots fired, according to Kirkum. Officers located a vehicle that had been struck by gun fire upon arrival.

Lake Charles Police have confirmed that several children witnessed one of the drive-by shootings while waiting for the bus on the corner.

LCPD arrested Reginald E. Nelson, 35, of Lake Charles on Oct. 25 in connection with the shootings,says Keenum in an update today. Nelson is currently facing aggravated criminal damage to property, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and assault by drive-by shooting charges. His bond has been set at $550,000.

Sgt. Franklin Fondel is the lead investigator.
