“What an exciting time of the year as basketball season is finally here,” said head coach Kacie Cryer. “These girls have been working extremely hard since they stepped foot on campus in June. We are really excited to get on the court against a tough Grambling team.”
Cryer begins her third season at the helm of the Cowgirl program and returns three players (Regan Bolton, Bre’Ashlee Jones, Cinthya Rivas) from last season along with two redshirts (Jahquell Robinson, Callie Maddox).
Cryer and her staff will be looking to find a new starting five as all five starters from the 2017-18 season graduated. Bolton, Jones and Rivas all have seen quality minutes in the past few years and will be the leaders both on and off the court.
Along with Robinson and Maddox, eight other players will suit up in a Cowgirl uniform for the first time including six freshmen and two transfers.
“This is a great group of girls who have bought into all aspects of this program. We know that our non-conference schedule will be tough, but this group is prepared both mentally and physically to take the court to begin the journey ahead,” Cryer said.
Grambling (0-1) opened its season at Auburn on Tuesday with a 97-48 loss. Grambling is coming off a 19-14 overall record and 13-5 SWAC record and was the SWAC Tournament Champion, advancing to the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
