LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) - As early voting continues ahead of the Nov. 6 election, we continue to breakdown items on the ballot. One of those items deals with tax dollars that help fund the 13 branches of the Calcasieu Parish library system. This nearly six millage, 10-year plan is up for a renewal.
But what exactly does this millage mean to you?
If the plan is approved, someone who has a home valued at $100,000 would pay $1.25 per month, or one video from red box. For a home valued at $150,000, residents would pay $3.47 per month, or one small Starbucks drink.
“96 percent of our funding is the millage so, if it doesn’t pass, I mean, we wouldn’t have anything," says Marjorie Harrison, director of the Calcasieu Parish Library.
