LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) -
The last few seasons for the Lake Charles College Prep Trailblazers have not gone the way they wanted. The team went 0-9 in 2015 and combined to win just 7 games over the next two years.
Enter 2018. The Blazers have a 7-1 record and are undefeated in district play thus far. They have also been putting up the points as well having scored 40-plus points in 4 of their victories this season.
“We’ve been working since January, putting in all kind of hard work. Coach has been preaching to us about discipline so we’ve been working real hard on that. We just really try to come together as one and become a better team.”, running-back D’Marcus Miller said.
Now, LCCP has an opportunity to make school history. With a win on Friday night over crosstown rival Washington-Marion, the Trailblazers would clinch their first district championship in school history. Something head coach Erick Franklin says has been the plan all along.
“When I first took the job, that’s what we envisioned. Four or five years in, we should be one of the better teams in town. It’s crazy how it all unfolded. I added great coaches to the coaching staff along with great athletes that have developed each year and we’re at that point now with an opportunity to get our first district championship”, Franklin added.
