Suspect arrested in 5th Avenue shooting

LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) - Lake Charles Police Department reports that a suspect has been arrested in regards to a shooting on 5th Ave.

Department Spokesman, Lt. Kevin Kirkum, says that officers responded to the intersection of 5th Avenue and Lilly Street on Saturday, October 20, 2018 at 11:35 p.m. in regards to the shooting.

On arrival officers located a victim with numerous gunshot wounds who was identified as Elgin Green. Green was transported to a local hospital where he died from his injuries. Officers also found a second victim with non-life threatening gunshot wounds who was also transported to a local hospital.

During the investigation of the incident it was revealed that Green and the second victim were involved in a altercation inside a vehicle. Both victims exited the vehicle at the intersection and were shot.

Police say it was also revealed in the investigation that Jeremiah Elijahjuan Ellis was responsible for the death of Green. Ellis has been arrested on the charge of 2nd degree murder. A warrant was submitted to Judge Ronald Ware who set Ellis' bond at $200,000.

Lake Charles Police say that the investigation into this shooting is still ongoing.
