LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) - Earlier this month, Calcasieu Animal Services received a national recognition in Colorado for the services they provide to the parish.
The National Animal Care and Control Association awarded the Calcasieu Animal Services with the “Outstanding Animal Control Agency” award.
“They recognized us for our work with regard to the rabies clinic, our community involvement, as well as our public outreach and our training for staff," Wyvette Pryor-Cousin, assistant director at animal services, said.
The agency was also recognized for its efforts over a year ago, when it offered a helping hand during Hurricane Harvey, setting up shelter for animals who were displaced from Texas alongside their owners.
“There, we provided those animals with food as well as water, as well as shelter until they were moved on to their next stop,” Pryor-Cousin, said.
Cousin said receiving this award was an honor, motivating the staff to continue to work tirelessly every day.
“It allows you to continue to persevere, I think perseverance it’s so important. I think that having something like this allows you to do that. It’s that extra push, to keep you going each day, even on those days when it’s very difficult,” she said.
Without the help of the police jury and volunteers from the community, Cousin said receiving this award would not have been possible.
