Small business expo coming to southwest Louisiana

Small business expo coming to southwest Louisiana

LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) - Over the years, the Lake Area has been steadily growing into a strong economy.

The Lake Charles assistant city administrator, Kimberly Dellafosse says now is the best time to be an entrepreneur in southwest Louisiana.

“To get into business right now, you have a market ripe for opportunity,” Dellafosse said.

Dellafosse says the 6th annual small business expo will be held at the Civic Center in Lake Charles on Nov. 1. The city hopes to bring small business owners face-to-face with people who’ve started businesses, know how to market, how to network, and how to succeed.

“The expo gives the would-be entrepreneur the opportunity to learn information so that the process of getting into business is easier. In the past, the focus has been really for construction companies to learn more about how to do business with the city, but this particular year, we want to do something different,” Dellafosse said.

Keith Derousseau, who has attended in years past, owns Keiland Construction and says the expo has played a part in the growth of his business.

“It’s a very unique opportunity to meet the stakeholders and projects that are taking place here in the area. Along with the inspirations that are generated through here and the connections that are met. It’s something that you really would not want to miss,” says DeRousseau.

DeRousseau says if you're starting a business, it is easy to forget the most important part of it.

“I know you’re in the trenches starting one of these businesses, it seems as if you have no time for networking, but just know that is a critical aspect to growing your business,” Derousseau said.

“We want to be a part in making sure the tools that people need to be successful in business are provided. Southwest Louisiana is filled with talent, people have great ideas. That’s why this expo is so important,” says Dellafosse.
