Train collides with vehicle in Sulphur

SULPHUR, LA (KPLC) - A train and vehicle have collided on West Verdine Street and North Crocker Street in Sulphur, according to Sulphur PIO Mel Estess.

All railroad crossings other than Beglis, Post Oak, and Prater are closed until further notice.

The vehicle was traveling north on Crocker and failed to yield to crossing lights, said Kaitlyn Gallegos with the City of Sulphur. The vehicle was struck on the passenger side by a westbound train.

A man from Houston has been confirmed as the driver of the vehicle, He was taken to Lafayette General in critical condition, according to Estess.

The train has been confirmed as a Union Pacific railroad train. KPLC will continue to update this story as we receive more information.
